This delicious gluten free sugar free apple crisp is the perfect dish for this time of year.

The season of apples….apple pie, apple strudel, apple cobbler, apple crisp….

Apples are naturally sweet and do not need a lot of additional sugar added.  As most apples contain too much sugar and I cannot eat them, I chose to use Granny Smith apples for this apple crisp.  They are crisp and tart and very flavorful.  I added a little xylitol to sweeten the recipe just a little.  Add in some cinnamon and cloves and top with almond flour, coconut oil, and nuts and your set to devour a yummy apple treat.

The fall season is upon us and fresh apples abound. This gluten free sugar free apple crisp is the perfect way to enjoy the fall and winter season this year.

Ingredients
  • Filling:
  • 4 large Granny Smith apples
  • 2 tablespoons lime juice
  • 2 tablespoons xylitol
  • 1and ½ - 2 tablespoons cinnamon
  • 2 teaspoon cloves
  • Topping:
  • ½ cup almond flour
  • 1 tablespoon xylitol
  • 1 - 1 and ½ tablespoons coconut oil
  • ½ cup chopped nuts - pecans or walnuts
Instructions
  1. Peel and core apples and cut each apple into 8 slices. Then cut each slice into fourths. Put apples in large bowl and coat with lime juice.
  2. In small bowl mix xylitol, cinnamon and cloves. Add to large bowl and coat apples with cinnamon mixture.
  3. In medium bowl whisk almond flour and xylitol together. Add the nuts in and mix.
  4. Add 1 tablespoon coconut oil and mix until crumbly. If you need a little more add the other ½ tablespoon coconut oil in.
  5. Spray 8x8 pan with cooking spray. Pour apple filling into pan. Spoon the topping over the filling.
  6. Bake at 375 degrees for 30 minutes.
